The innovation engine for new materials

Project 7: Advanced Polymeric Materials

Project 7 strives to define new structure-property relationships through the synthesis of various
polymeric architectures (random, branched, block, and star) and the simultaneous development
of characterization methods that lead to performance differentiation. Synthetic techniques are
developed or adapted to explore the gamut of polymer architecture from rigorous precision and
perfect molar mass homogeneity to broad ensembles of molecular structures with key emphasis
on the strategic design of low-cost and commercially viable intermediates. Expertise in small-
molecule organic synthesis and controlled polymerization technologies underpins the structure-
property investigations of new monomers, polymers, and copolymers.
