Our 2017 workshop (March 17th) will be interesting for science teachers of all disciplines.  The morning activities will feature curriculum presentations and activities led by the following MRL RET teacher-interns along with other explorations of resources and materials in STEM education.

Afternoon speakers include materials scientist Samantha Daly, associate professor UCSB Mechanical Engineering Dept.,  Metals with Memory: Minimally-Invasive Biomedical Devices, and Tyler Susko,  Lecturer UCSB Mechanical Engineering Dept. "Project Based Learning in the UCSB Engineering Dept.".

We will explore hands on activities from Science Friday, the Gevirtz School of Education, and the Chris Bates Group of Materials Science.  New MRL facilities will be introduced as well.

 

*** PARKING INFO*** 

Plan on parking in Parking Lot 10, located nearest the Hwy 217 campus entrance. Campus maps may be found on the UCSB website,
When you reach Parking Lot 10, proceed to the top level. An attendant will be there between 7:30 am and 9:30 am to give you a permit. The permit must be displayed on the driver side windshield. If you arrive after 9:30am you will need to purchase your own permit at the dispenser located next to the elevator. You will be ticketed without a permit.
Take the stairs or elevator on lot side “A” to the street level. As you exit the parking lot walk to the south, between the Kohn Hall building and the Engineering II building, toward the MRL Building, 2 nd floor.
Please plan to arrive for registration, a continental breakfast/coffee and to chat with your fellow colleagues between 8:00 and 8:30am. We will introduce the days sessions at 8:30am.

The MRL holds a day-long workshop for science teachers every March on a variety of topics related to general science, chemistry, biology, physics and materials science.  Our workshops target upper elementary teachers, junior high teachers as well as secondary science teachers.  Resources for past workshops are available on the sidebar to the right (click on the workshop year).
